Research drawings from my creative residency at SAW Center (OTTAWA, CANADA), in partnership with the French Embassy in Canada as part of the ART + CONTESTATION research and production residency program.
This research on environmental issues in Canada led me to focus on the nuclear waste disposal site in Chalk River, Ontario. The project is contested by First Nations and environmental activists in the region.
This series of drawings plays on the contrasts between the texture of wood and the softness of the drawing, representing a part of the human body. The title suggests an exploration of the body as a geographical space that questions the relationship between the body and the space it occupies, and invites reflection on identity, self-perception, and the civic struggles inscribed on the body itself.
